About Flic

Flic Taylor is a freelance writer, podcaster and burnout coach talking about mental health, wellbeing and burnout.

Her passion for burnout arose when she found herself as a mental health writer struggling with extreme burnout - yes, the irony is not lost on her! This led Flic to write candidly, sharing her experiences and recovery.

Flic went on to host the Everyday Burnout Conversations Podcast - an honest podcast that shares the everyday burnout stories of others from all walks of life as they tackle or avoid burnout by prioritizing their mental health and wellbeing.

This firm fave pod of many reached #37 in the Apple UK mental health charts in spring 2022.

With a background in hospital play therapy and as a mum to two teen boys, Flic brings a unique perspective to spark the much-needed everyday burnout conversation that we all need to be having right now.

You can always count on Flic to come to the table with armfuls of humour, energy and her infectious positivity.

What

else?

Originally from the UK, I now dwell in Canada.

As a kid, I lived in my imaginary world hosting the birthday slot on TV. With the garage as my makeshift studio, my mission was to recognise the birthday of every child watching. I refused to believe there were only four kids with a birthday that day!

That li’l garage career didn’t evolve further.

But connection, inclusion and engaging others is still my jam.

For 10 years I worked with children and their families facing life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. I provided support and hospital play therapy programs at Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Whittington Hospital, and a North London Community Nursing team.

Palliative care will always remind you to smell the roses along the way.

I met my Canadian husband in a London pub. A few pints and years later, I thought it would be fun to try living in Canada.

I now live in Ottawa and I’m a mum to two teen boys.

Anyone who has emigrated to another country will tell you… it’s not easy.

It’s damn hard at times.

You can take the girl out of London but you can’t take London out of the girl.

Nor can you find a North American replacement for Marks & Spencer’s Percy Pigs.

For 6 years I wrote a blog called, Love A Good Stripe.

For the past 8 years I’ve been a freelance writer specializing in mental health.

Storytelling and engagement is my superpower.

Despite living in a world full to the brim with communication platforms, we still feel isolated in our human experiences.

That’s why it’s crucial that content both resonates and leads to connection.

Besides, people tend to skim through content unless it’s a bloody good story with a spoonful of humour and a hearty dose of authenticity.

And now,

I’m firing up the everyday burnout

conversations

Whether you call it life or just plain comedy gold, I’m the mental health writer who happened to lose her own mental health for a while.

Yup, true story.

I discovered nothing beats a hefty bout of burnout —thanks to some overworking and overachieving tendencies— to make you stop and reassess the cards held in your hand.

One minute I used to want it all, the next, I wanted to lie down in bed for three months watching BBC comedies with empty chocolate buttons wrappers as my duvet.

But as any writer will tell you, when life turns upside down the pen and notebook inevitably come out.

So join me as I tackle life and rebuild a life after burnout.
